They <b>DO</b> matter, to get an B1/B2 VISA that is the kind of VISA that you need if you plan to a conference and such kind of things you need an invitation letter.<br>Unless your country have some kind of agreement with USA, then you don't even need a VISA.

I did not want to raise in public because I might be very wrong but my<br>understanding is that since 2001 invitation letters do not matter. Ask<br>your embassy. I got a 10yr tourist visa w/o providing one.<br><br>Regards,
