Folks,

I created an issue for this "Change 'page' to something else": http://drupal.org/node/542972

Daniel, on the thread that changed "story" to "article," Catch noted that the UMN usability studies showed that "Page" was highly problematic (http://drupal.org/node/197765#comment-762730). Also, why would I survey thousands of people when this is open source and I can change it on my own sites? All of our suggestions are anecdotal. Note that my explanation was not simply subjective "feel" about the nature of words, it is based on the fact that the word "Page" used to describe a content-type in Drupal is used commonly by the general public combined with "web" to mean something very different. We can draw different conclusions as to what degree that causes a problem. But its not like saying "I think 'supper' is a better word for 'dinner'" which you seemed to suggest.

While I've got y'all on the line re: Drupal issue queue... I started a thread a couple of months ago that went nowhere to try to change the default rss output setting in the D7 distro to "Full article" instead of "Teaser". In a world populated by mobile aps, it is a total bummer for people using an rss ap reading a site article and having to have it open in a browser ap to finish the article, or worse, not having access to the rest of the article at all. I think Drupal needs to stay up with these kinds of changes. (Of course, any site administrator can change the setting... but sensible defaults are really important too).

Changing things simply because you want to? You reasons are only anecdotal. I think you need more justification than that to get something changed. Maybe if you'd surveyed a few thousand people you might be able to justify your opinion on a usability basis.

I've been giving some focus on training and usability lately, writing up a lot of stuff... and I just realized that I want to change the name of the stock "Page" content-type.

Because of the very common expression "Web page" clients can get confused by the "Page" content-type.

I actually think the term "web page" is very useful in communicating with clients. To me that expression "web page" = unique URL. But as a content-type, multiple "Pages" can be listed on one "Web page" using Views, built in taxonomy views, etc. And, of course, other content-types show up on "web pages" --- so it's a semantic mess.

I do like Drupal's out-of-the-box suggested distinction of a "Page" being a listing of more permanent, non time-bound info, whereas a story is more newsy and gets old (hence the default settings of having the byline and pub date turned on in a story and off for a "Page").

So the question is, what to rename the "Page" content-type?

This is my list so far... I don't like any of them:

Article

Generic Content

Static Content

Informative Content

Information

What do you guys use? Do you just keep "Page." Have you noticed that "Page" is confusing for clients?

p.s. I haven't been following D7 progress closely... does anyone know if anyone else has pointed out this problem and suggested a different name for "Page"?
