hey guys. What do you think about running a video contest in Drupal? Any
example sites that you can give
We are actually planning to host a video contest like in YouTube but not
sure if it will smoothly work in an existing Drupal site.
One of the problems that we see is the bandwidth. Any advice?

thanks!
You could use the emfield module and have people host their videos on the service of their choice -- YouTube, Vimeo, etc. -- and use your Drupal site to frame the content.
It's a good idea. The only problem is that they are interacting with
Youtube, so you lose a bit of control... But unless your site has a massive
budget and you need to control every aspect of the user experience, this is
good advice.
You might consider also Kaltura for hosting the videos.
http://www.kaltura.org/

They have Drupal integration
http://www.kaltura.org/project/video_drupal_module

It depends on how you're going to be using the video content. There
are many possibe solutions.
I'm not sure if it's quite what you're looking for, but you may want to check out this case study: http://drupal.org/node/790858
The case study uses the embedded media field with only YouTube enabled, so they're using YouTube to host the videos.

I've done a TON of work in the video+Drupal space and I'll echo a previous poster's comment: unless you know what you're getting yourself into and have the budget to support that, use a 3rd party service thru the embedded media field and move on.
Incredibly valuable thread! Great input, everyone.

I'd like to dovetail and see if anyone has any examples of a photo
contest done in Drupal. Though, I supposed some of the previous
examples/suggestions could be done with photos as well as video.
