Hey Fred,
This is exactly why I stopped using local apps like MacFreelance and other ones. If something happens or their crappy timer stopped, you would always be estimating. I moved my stuff online to a subscription based service (Invoice Machine) because they also created the invoices, tracked, archived and just simplified it for me. That is not my strong point but I also need to get paid. I have bombed my mac so many times it's second nature now but what i did was add 3 hard drives (4) total and use TimeMachine on drive 4 and sleep well knowing I have a dedicated bkup. Then from there, you can selectively back important stuff up to others. The problem I have with all of the cloud-based stuff is what if the internet is down, what if a million things.

I dislike Google scraping everything I do (like they will do with this message) and then send me ads based on it. Besides that, I enjoy having some privacy regarding certain aspects like billing. It's one of those things that as soon as I saw your message, I said to myself, "Do you back up?". I know it's cliche but there is truth to it. The biggest thing is just to make sure it doesn't happen again and as always, keep calm and carry on.

Be well.

Chris

I track my time with an app on my desktop and something happened (not
entirely sure what but it's not really relevant now anyway) and I lost
all my time worked from Jan 1st through the 19th.

What should I do for my January bills? I charge my clients hourly. I
don't even know 100% what I worked on and I don't think I can just
take the details from the 19th through the 31st and multiply them by
1.5 because who knows if that's correct? I do a lot of "one off" work
these days so it's not as though I worked on Clients A, B and C every
other day.

Not sure what to do.

I guess to multiply by 1.5 is the best I can think of. :(

Any other ideas?

Thanks.
@Fred - Don't you have emails or issue queues where you can see what was
done over these days? Going through your list of tasks and tracking time
from memory and summing that to limit to 160 hours (or whatever is your
average per month) would be an option.
I recommend you switch to https://www.roninapp.com
You can log hours even track your time since you start to work on task and
finish it. Ronin could also create invoice from your logged hours.

About your missing time sheets, better tell your client about it. If you
have daily report with them, you could backtrack your time.
Look at your mobile call log and sent/received emails, command history, error log, etc. The pieces could refresh your memory.
