The Examples project only covers core APIs, otherwise things would just get out of control. If I'm not mistaken the discussion here is about a CCK feature.

And API module can only pick up hooks when they're documented in api.php files; CCK didn't quite get that done. Field module in D7 is better, although there's still lots of WTF in there.

I didn't know about the Drupalcontrib API docs, but I did know about the Lullabot API site. I had checked the Lullabot site, and found nothing. I just now checked the Drupalcontrib site, and it's not there, either.

The problem is, that the hooks are not defined by Drupal, and they are not themselves functions (so have no doxygen comments). So, if you search for "hook_content_extra_fields," you will find nothing at either site.

This is not a knock at either site (both of which are excellent), it's something that really should have been a tutorial from the CCK authors themselves. I'm surprised it's not in the handbook.

I'm also really surprised it's not in the node_example module. It really should be. Maybe I'll raise this as an issue in the queue?
