Also, once the term "installation tree" is introduced, it can be<br>shortened to "tree," which is distinctive, but shortening "installation<br>directory" to "directory" is likely to be more confusing.

Too many people have folder issues, drupal is installed in sub directories, sub domains, subdomains that are folders, etc. So, like I said, we can go for the clause, 'where drupal is installed', and avoid the whooooole thing all together. Alternatively, drupal root, if you must.
