[drupal-support] Any alternative to using Crontab?

I never have been able to get Crontab to work to update news feeds in 
Drupal. I tried
dozens of commands, changed permissions, etc. and my hosting company did a 
reinstall
to be sure there was not a bug. I tried using WebCron.Org which works on one 
site but
does not seem to work well on another.

Does anyone know of any alternative way to do this such as using some type 
of spidering script?
