[support] Using attachment module with safe mode enabled

Dear friends
Is there any way in which the attachment module could work with php
safe mode enabled?
We get difficulties with the permissions on the files directory to
which the attachments are uploaded.
Using PHP4, mysql 3.23 on a Red Hat ES 3 Linux and apache
