[support] How to check- out proper module version (help!)

Hey all ! I'm having a slight problem here for a CVS checkout.  I am kind of
confused on the repository layout, it seems there are many branches
cluttering up the tree, and finding the proper tag for a module, although I
did sort of understand the manuals directions . Trying a checkout on
backup_migrate , ( http://drupal.org/node/189068 ) , I see the release
listed as backup_migrate 5.x-1.x-dev .

 

I have checked out like 4-5 branches, 

 

 

contributions-DRUPAL-5- -1- - dev, 

contributions-DRUPAL-5--1-0-DEV, 

contributions-DRUPAL-5--0-1-dev

contributions-DRUPAL-5--0-1-dev  

 

 This last one screwed up I think, because it did not create a new folder.
I assume windows being case-insensitive dumped all in
contributions-DRUPAL-5--0-1-Dev that was already checked out. 

 

Anyhow, after an hour of checking out all these branches, I am kind of
stumped as back_up migrate is nowhere to be seen , apart from the HEAD
checkout. I don't want HEAD, it does not work well on Drupal 5.3.

 

So if someone can slap be with a clue-stick, I would be happy to  know how
one finds the proper branch for a particular module, I am sure there are
nodes somewhere on this but the ones I found and reread  a few times over
have not helped me.  I am french so maybe I missed out on something.
