I believe that there is space for very-very valuable work there.

Besides usage metrics or maintenance metrics etc which can be tricky,
there is a need for more detailed multiple categorization, mapping
similar modules, categorizing by subtle differences in functionality,
e.g. access control of what, for what operations, by whom, or mail
modules useful for a newsletters or a mailing lists or for
notification... mapping sets of modules into different
trends/frameworks etc

>From such as procedure some kinds of information may turn out to
become obsolete fast, in which case they will deserve less attention,
while other kinds of information may be found to represent stable
trends. Hard to know without trying.
