[support] drupal6, node and files

Hi,
just a question because for me it is of great importance.
is it true that, in d6, a file can be associated to multiple nodes?
I'm using d5 and disknode because it was not possible to associated  a file 
to 3 4 nodes, but I read this in a readme of a module.
can you explain me hot does it work?
