Hi Steve,

One idea is the cck multigroup feature - which is tracked in
http://drupal.org/node/494100 and is incorporated into CCK 6.x-3.x -
but CCK 6.x-3.x is the development branch without any specific
stability.  I'm working on a site that is using it, but the site made
the decision to use it with the clear knowledge that we may need to
contribute patches to stabilize CCK6.x-3.x ourselves every now and
then.
