I have used http://drupal.org/project/content_access for this in the past. 

Be sure to clear cache after you have it configured.

I need a module that will restrict access by role to content types and also, instead of only an Access Denied page, also remove the menu link.
For some reason I thought that most just did that, but I used Node View Permissions and it did not. Any advice?
