[support] Varnish

Dear All
I am planning to use Varnish 3.0.3 with Drupal 7.15.
I hope both of these are compatible.., any input highly appreciated.

Varnish binds to two ports 6081, 6082.
I read somewhere we need to run Varnish in port 80 and apache in 8080 and
accordingly we need to configure.

If I do that, I am unable to access the site. Is it required to open port
8080 in firewall.
