Take a look at <a href="http://drupal.org/project/phpfreechat">phpfreechat</a>, I had got a chance to work with that long time back and it solved my problems.. Can also try<div><a href="http://drupal.org/project/chatroom">http://drupal.org/project/chatroom</a> (this is built the drupal way -- no xmpp kinda solution but works good enough)</div>

If so, you are in luck. A module is not even required.<br>
