As far as the settings, there is no single answer. You should post
this in the high performance group, as this list is more dedicated
to core Drupal stuff and not server related questions:<br>

<div>Hi <br>
</div>
I just uninstalled all memcache related stuff.<br>
<br>
</div>
Next I followed the instructions in README.txt, now
I am able to use Memcache.<br>
<br>
</div>
However I do not see much performance improvement.<br>
<br>
</div>
Moreover the pages having captch image, takes around 4/5
second to load.<br>
<br>
</div>
I am using Varnish and Memcache for caching purpse.<br>
<br>

What are the optimal configurations for Varnish and
Memcache.., to make a site faster.<br>

I think you will have to debug this in pieces.<br>
<br>
a) Write plain test.php to test if memcache is running and
behaving normally<br>
b) Write Drupal bootstrapped test.php and check if memcache
is<br>
configured correctly in Drupal and you are able to access
memcache<br>
functions<br>
c) In Drupal bootstrapped test.php you will have to check if
Drupal<br>
caching functions work correctly with Memcache and if not
debug it<br>
from there.<br>
<br>
Thanks<br>
