I think there are many people in the wider community that would be interested in Chip-In like functionality.

I think it's pretty cool to have the donation thermometer to see how
much we still need for each fundraising drive and ChipIn.com is pretty
well done.

I'm wary of payment systems in general, and in particular of new, untested ones. I took a spin around ChipIn, and it is quite nicely done. I created an account.

How is their support for international credit cards? Our community is a world wide one...

(I also included script.aculo.us in the chipin sandbox module for review
purposes. Once this becomes a real module, I'm assuming those will have
to go for licensing reasons. But, I'd like to include just the bare
minimum of JS in there to get the color palette slide effect, and not
have to force users to download an external JS helper module. What is
the recommended route there?)

Use JQuery effects. It will likely be in core for 4.8/5.0, and it's much smaller than script...
