Indeed, but not all servers has xml-rpc or require some kind configuration to enable it. I think it's the masses who need this function the most, but also the ones who is less likely to set up xml-rpc.

Since Drupal already has a good xmlrpc library, xmlrpc is actually very simple.
It's actually easier than trying to parse an RSS feed, in fact.
