Yup, you could still use the druplicon as the theme's default logo, but in that case it exists more as a

'YOUR LOGO HERE' than anything else. =)

I agree, unchecking the "use default logo" in the theme configuration is pretty easy. So either way it shouldn't be much work. ;)
