[drupal-devel] Etiquette for webform.module patches -- can't reach maintainer
Good morning. I apologize for the bandwidth, but I'm stuck until I can reach the maintainer of webform.module. I had the good fortune a couple of weeks ago that my employer needed a couple of new features added to webform.module, some additional flexibility in how it generates the emails. So they paid me to do the code on company time, but are willing (because we are an Open Source friendly company) to let me release it under GPL back to the Drupal community. There's absolutely nothing specific to our application about these enhancements; in fact, they broaden rather than narrow what the module can do. It's not a lot of code, but I'd like to commit the changes to CVS. The thing is, I've tried unsuccessfully to reach the maintainer listed for the project. How long do I wait before I assume this module is dormant and just go ahead and commit? Or is there someone on this list who has taken over as maintainer and just not put their name on the project yet? I don't want to violate the rules of Drupal etiquette, so I'm asking before doing. But the code is not a conceptual pipe dream -- it's in production on my employer's web site right now -- so I want to contrib it back to the community. Advice? That's who I've tried to contact, unsuccessfully. Well, my feeling would be that if you still want to be as polite about it as possible, you could put your version in your sandbox, describe the changes here, and if nobody objects in a week, commit it. Robert

If Ullgren is not responding, I can make you the maintainer of the project. I just sent Ullgren an e-mail so let's wait a bit more. -- Dries Buytaert :: http://www.buytaert.net/

I'm not necessarily seeking that role. I will take it on if no one else is able, but I've already got a pretty full plate. If someone else wants to step forward and do this, please say so. Dries, if you haven't heard from anyone else by the time you decide you've waited long enough, you may proceed with this if you deem it appropriate. In the meantime, I'll take the excellent suggestion from Robert Douglass of putting my patches into my sandbox. :-) Thanks, to both of you, for the response. I got mail from Ullgren. He's going to look into the pending issues; he might have gotten back to you already. If not, I think he soon will. -- Dries Buytaert :: http://www.buytaert.net/

There is also an "ullgren" in #drupal (on freenode). I've contacted him in the past, but have no idea of his current status. As an alternative - feel free to add patches for survey.module which has a fair bit of functionality overlap, and a responsive maintainer (who is a really cool guy) ;) -- James Walker :: http://www.walkah.net/
