This project http://drupal.org/project/userpath duplicates a portion of what pathauto does. This is not necessarily bad, since someone my want just redirects, but then they can install pathauto and disable the node aliasing.. The user, cmb, did not enable contacts. Hope he is on this list.

Yeah, that is sort of my fault. I didn't really understand from the project description that it would be duplicating pathauto. But frankly, ensuring that no duplication in features happens is a long lost battle. There are simply too many modules for me to keep track of and remember when reviewing somebody's cvs application. Cheers, Gerhard
I agree it is a lost battle, and perhaps we should just embrace diversity in the eco system, so to speak. But we also have to continue to point these things to the people involved anyways, and perhaps they can join forces. At least they can make an informed decision, not out of ignorance of what is out there. In other words, stop policing and start informing ... Specifically for userpath, there are two issues on the subject of whether it is the "right" way to achieve the goal that it achieves: http://drupal.org/project/issues/userpath My feeling is that redirect is inappropriate for this situation. One general question that I have is - what is the process for removing a module? Is there such a process? I won't single out any modules, but there are almost certainly modules that were created which are either no longer needed or were stillborn from the beginning. What do we do for deletion of projects?
