hosting solution for Drupalcon videos

I'm collecting all the videos from our last Drupalcon Barcelona 2007 hoping that the Citilab, the venue where the drupalcon took place, would be able to host them. Unfortunately they cannot do so.
I will appreciate any idea/solution/offer to host those videos.
Can you upload them to archive.org like the others? How many videos do you have? Cheers, Gerhard -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFHARLNfg6TFvELooQRAnnoAKCTlRrUe+uVbMe8d6M+LcNaXp3KJQCgm0hX QqFYpwVSejGiUT8mRUb3mH8= =Hfi7 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Perhaps you can try http://veoh.com ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veoh ).

Gerhard, can't we upload them to the drupal.org FTP mirrors like we did previously, and like we did with the screencasts? (And there there is always Google Video.) -- Dries Buytaert :: http://www.buytaert.net/

The bittorrent module has been mentioned in the other thread, why don't we use it for distributing these videos from drupal.org? Would it increase the CPU load significantly? balazs
Hi, I did (finally) setup the drupal bittorrent module experimentally. I didn't do any load testing of the tracker but I doubt it would be an issue unless you are serving the latest hollywood blockbuster.. It would be cool if there was a d.o. or drupalcon.org site running this module -- although webseeding could mean significant bandwidth usage. This is optional however; you could rely on the community to seed for you. You could just create torrents and upload them to the drupal site, with the files permanently hosted elsewhere like archive.org btw it would be nice to have some integration between a video uploading module & bittorrent module (some sort of "glue" module, such that you upload a video and a torrent is created automatically) --mark On 10/1/07, Balazs Dianiska <csillagasz@gmail.com> wrote:

The problem is that there are some constraints about their usage, especially for big files.

Our offer to host some videos remains open. I will give a shell account and a subdomain.

Considering time constraints, we should try that. Can you give Robert access to the server? If we figure out something else, I can download them from there. Note that I have about 2.4TB to spare over the next 30 days over this server's 100Mbps uplink.
For reference this is 12,500 downloads of a 200MB video. --mark On 10/1/07, David Strauss <david@fourkitchens.com> wrote:

For what it's worth, http://blip.tv/ provides good quality hosting with ability to download the original file (for example .mov file) *and* auto uploads file to archive.org if asked. Philippe
v2v folks are great fans of DRUPAL and might be able to offer serving videos on their servers if approached... they already did this once! On Nov 11, 2007 2:57 PM, Philippe Jadin <philippe.jadin@gmail.com> wrote:

At the time that I uploaded the drupalcon videos to archive.org, their connection was maxed out but they since doubled their connection (to internet1 and internet2), http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=153781 In my testing download speeds were pretty good (1.5 mbps), but i'm sure this varies.. --mark On Nov 11, 2007 5:57 AM, Philippe Jadin <philippe.jadin@gmail.com> wrote:

I mailed Robert Garrigos about it two weeks ago, and he said he didn't hear back yet from the Citilab. Hopefully the videos will arrive soon as I've been holding back my slides until I can post them together with the video recording of my presentation. *fingers crossed* -- Dries Buytaert :: http://www.buytaert.net/
This is another vote for bliptv. I have not used them directly, but know of people who do, and they allow really big videos to be uploaded. I mean ones with quality that is more than YouTube et al.

What about your traffic limit? This might be hurting. I also opt for blip.tv because they offer videos with a good quality.

Google Video and YouTube http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/topic.py?topic=10524 limit to around 100MB (~10 minutes), with 1GB files possible using a special uploader. Amazon's S3 REST API can allow you to upload to 5GB buckets if Drupal has "large" files -- however S3 is a paid service. Some nice things about S3 are that you can use a CNAME in DNS to make the files appear to be served from the Drupal domain and you can use bittorrent to serve files to share the load, reducing distribution costs. http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AmazonS3/2006-03-01/
