[drupal-devel] settings
Hi, Settings are scattered everywhere. This is extermely confusing the light of the Settings menu item. I'd expect to find every settings under settings. Why Is content settings is reachable under node / settings but not under settings / node ? What's more I'd expect both subtabs (settings, default workflow) from admin/node/configure Same with users, the page admin/user/configure should be also accessible as settings/user. Regards NK

I would expect content related stuff to be in one place. Like we have language related stuff (settings too) under one menu item. Half of the admin interface is about settings. Some of them used to be under the 'settings' menu item (blocks, modules for example), but thankfully they are out now from there. There are a damn lot of settings. Like there are setting for every filter in every input format, so that a filter can have as many configurations as many input formats you have. Block configuration was also recently moved out of the module configuration into the block admin page. The focus is to organize stuff by 'focus' and not by 'task'. Every focus (eg. languages) have their tasks (which are rendered as tabs most of the time). Goba

Do, or do not. There is no 'try'. Then eradicate settings menu completely (very, very easy patch). This is also a way to get of rid this confusion. You can not deny that the current state IS confusing. Regards NK

Well, there is a 'try' in the sense that Drupal is going into some direction, and we do hit some failure points.

The name of the settings menu item is confusing, not how the other settings are locate IMHO. Where else would those general configuration options go, if you eradicate the settings menu item? Is it that easy? Goba

Maybe one level up.
Ehem, one level up is /admin. That is the watchdog overview page you see when you go into the admin area. Do you intend to modify those settings on all ocassions you go into the admin area? Or would you like to make it a tab on the /admin page? That might not be a bad idea after all :) Well. Hm.
But now I am joining Ber Kessels, 'cos he has good ideas, with a far wider horizont than I do...
Good luck :) Goba

I am working on this. And would like people to review (and report back!!) my efforts till now. 1) documentation is on http://dev.bryght.com/t/wiki/DrupalRestructure 2) working example is at http://consistent.drupaldevs.org/ Please log in there with your drupal ID, and give me a shout (IM or mail) ***NOTE!! the settings and changes wont make any sense for anonymous **nor** for registered users. Only adminsitrators see how it should look!** So again: Do not start yelling: "it looks like crap" when you do not have admin rights there!! -- Regards, Bèr -- [ Bèr Kessels | Drupal services www.webschuur.com ]
