I am now running VIM 7.2 and love the tabs and auto complete features for PHP and other Web based technologies. Has anyone written a auto complete file yet for Drupal 5/6/7 branches yet? Since the topic of an IDE has come up, I'm curious as to how valuable a system would be that offers line by line debugging? I spent 3 months researching over 20 opensource projects and integrating them into a nice system for Drupal development, or any PHP development for that matter. I have documented about half of my work at dev.antoinesolutions.com. There you can review all the different projects I have integrated and instructions on how to do it yourself. I was also thinking of offering a VMware virtual machine for download at $99.00 for a year subscription with monthly releases. The $99.00 would cover my time and the bandwidth required to host such large files. Check out the site and let me know what you think. The topic was "VIM" not "IDE", see the subject of the mail you replied to. It is even written in capital letters. "Senior Consultant"? Apparently not for the topic of "how to effectively use a mailing list". Yikes, forget netequitte, how about showing some common decency? The only two posts I've seen from you since joining this list yesterday were rude and condescending. Shall we get off of your lawn while we're at it? -D
My sincerest apologies to anyone I have offended. I believe the topic at some point was IDE and was changed to VIM. Enough from you already. This list isn't about what is the best tool to use and what add-ons you might get for it; but Gerhard didn't even slam you for that. He slammed you because you changed the topic without changing the subject. He's doing his job and as list administrator has the right to prevent your address from posting. So with your attitude, you might already be "off of the lawn". -- Earnie http://r-feed.com Make a Drupal difference and review core patches. -- http://4offer.biz/ -- http://give-me-an-offer.com/

Kindly review who's talking about what before getting sanctimonious. Many thanks, -D

Actually at this point of your email I thought this is going to be yet another VIM+xdebug fan (like me), but the rest was less relevant in this regard.. :) --y
I am going to look at the documentation for VIM tonight and see what might be involved. I will get back to the list with my findings tomorrow morning. -Anthony -- Anthony Wlodarski www.thrillist.com <http://www.thrillist.com> Web Applications Developer 568 Broadway Ste. 605 New York, NY, 10012 (o) 646.786.1944 ________________________________ From: Gordon Heydon <gordon@heydon.com.au> Reply-To: <development@drupal.org> Date: Wed, 25 Feb 2009 13:20:07 -0800 To: <development@drupal.org> Subject: Re: [development] VIM as an editor. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I too use vim for development, and I have not created an autocomplete for Drupal. A whole section of the Drupal handbook is dedicated to the development environment: http://drupal.org/setting-up-development-environment There is a page about configuring VIM for Drupal development: http://drupal.org/node/29325 So while all of you are discussing IDEs in general and VIM in particular, you might want to make sure the aforementioned section is updated at the same time. Blessings, Augustin.
