been following this thread, and as maintainer of logintoboggan module, it does seem to be a logical place to try to implement this functionality. however, the module is already trying to support several other login strategies, and i do have concerns about making the code a mess by trying to do everything. maybe this feature would be best implemented as a small contrib module of it's own? in any case, if somebody will file a feature request for this, i'll look at the code and see if it makes sense to go in there chad
