Re: [drupal-devel] Improvements abandoned? (was: bug squashing session)
What happened to having the bug reports and updates getting mailed to this mailing list? That seemed to work. I posted three bug fix patches and filed two bug reports yesterday but I feel like they are left in a black hole. That's not a feeling you want to leave folks with after they contributed several hours of their time. I know you can easily see the list at http://drupal.org/project/issues?projects=3060&states=1&categories=bug. But you know the saying, "out of sight, out of mind." Maybe getting bug reports sent to this mailing list again would help make things along. On 10/11/05, Richard Archer <drupal.org@juggernaut.com.au> wrote:

Since there will be a lot of developers the bug list can get lengthy, don't be shy.
This is an excellent plan and will go a long way towards shortening the backlog of bugs as well as improving the quality of Drupal.
But there still remains the problems of:
- all the feature requests and tasks in the queue
- the fact that the queue grows faster than it is processed
- the way unwanted patches just sit in the queue forever without being reviewed and rejected.
A longer term process needs to be established to make sure worthy patches are considered and also that reviewers/contributors don't waste their time.

Several people felt that this mailing list would ne rather a dump for issues than a place where to discuss things. Looking at the quantity of recent discussions, not mailing issues anymore looks like a good idea. Now we need to work on the quality... Also, only issues with patches got posted here.

No. You and everybody else is welcome to use the subscription feature of the project module to get issues mailed.

Not for me. Since I am already subscribed through the project module it annoys me a great deal. Cheers, Gerhard

The subscription feature is great because it notifies people who use it and are interested in the module. This does not mean that it notifies the owner/manager of the module though. It isn't clear to me if all modules have a manager (someone who not only maintains the code but also maintains the issue queue for it). I assume the answer is yes insofar as people are willing to commit but I suspect the situation could be improved somehow.

I agree. I prefer to see development discussion here and subscribe for bugspam. Spamming the entire list should not be the fallback to not having module owners, in my opinion. Cheers, Chris

There are module maintainers for contrib modules and there are module maintainers for core modules. Managing the issue queue is however a community effort. At least for core.

Only core issues only got mailed here in the past. Cheers, Gerhard
