[drupal-devel] Let's weed out contrib
Hi! I am looking for volunteers for the following: weed out contrib. TODO: -- delete the long-unmaintained modules and themes. -- contact the authors of very similar modules and get them to combine efforts. -- remove non-GPL items from contrib. Because directories can not be deleted, it's evergrowing and now a mess. Therefore I'd say after this process, ask Kjartan or Dries to remove some dirs on the FS level. Regards NK

Yay!

I removed the fckeditor distribution from CVS HEAD. I was unsuccessfull in contacting the author.

At least in this case this makes sense. Real contributed code should stay in the attic. Cheers, Gerhard

I suggest we remove those modules that have no DRUPAL-4-4 branch/release AND no DRUPAL-4-5 branch/release.

Modules whose license is compatible with the GPL are probably fine.

We could do that. I suggest we compile a list first. -- Dries Buytaert :: http://www.buytaert.net/

Legally compliant but unmaintained code *should* be kept in the Attic, so that someone can revive a project if desired. Goba

I thought of http://cvs.drupal.org/viewcvs/drupal/contributions/modules/ and http://cvs.drupal.org/viewcvs/drupal/contributions/themes/ I, for myself, love ViewCVS. However, the evergrowing directory list is a problem. So let me correct myself: Because directories can not be deleted, it's evergrowing and now ViewCVS is a mess. Also, it was not clear: I am not just asking for people to do it. I'll lead. Regards NK

Because you use a crappy user interface it should not affect how the previously developed modules are kept or not. If you would not like to see empty folders in ViewCVS, it is a ViewCVS feature reuquest, it should not mean that the drupal CVS server should not have the old contrib modules kept in the Attic. One of the points of version control is that you can revive long deleted files, if need be. Goba

see this task [1] incl. a working fix. [1] Prune the viewCVS display of Contrib repository <http://drupal.org/node/1734> -- ax Daphne: Roz, is everything all right? Roz: Yeah, I'm fine. It's just that my hair is huge and this dress is a joke. Frasier: No, nonsense, Roz. You look divine. Roz: No, I look like Divine.

Looks good to me. Kjartan? Dries? Thanks NK
