After patching, there will be four different permissions to assign: add child relations remove any child relation remove child relations of own nodes view link operations http://drupal.org/node/698202 - nsciacca and jonhattan worked together to on this. The output for themeing the child nodes of a parent node now checks to see if the "hide this child type" option is selected and always outputs content based on that selection.
