Ursula, Now I am having the same issue. I have disabled the main-menu from any region but it is still there. Any css applied to main-menu is applied to this main menu. But I can't figure out why it is appearing when I have disabled it. When I enable the main-menu I get two. I did have an issue in that I manually deleted a drupal installation and wound up with 2 DBs. I thought this might be the cause (would mean a great deal of corruption somewhere) and have now manually deleted the redundant DB but this has had no effect on the prob.
Thanks

Tony,

Glad the menu issue works now. When you change the page template, you need to clear the template registry of your site. The easiest is, to just clear the whole cache (and the fastest, to have a terminal open, and use drush).
Additionally, you need to completely reload your page on your PC, as you have done (using shift-reload).

I did change some code in the page template a few days ago setting the main menu into the header. That's when I started getting the double appearance of the main menu and 'main menu' block I had defined. After I reversed that change in the template file I did not see any change until I tried your suggestion (which I had tried umpteen times) on a different PC in a new browser session.
Could this have been a cache issue? I have noticed that chrome is especially stubborn about clearing it's cache.
