If the "best path" of disabling modules loses data regardless of
migration or upgrade it is still an issue that needs resolved.  So far,
CCK fields is the only problem reported in this thread.  Disabling
modules is not supposed to cause the loss of data; that is the job of
the uninstall process where it warns about the loss.
