Many thanks to those who responded to me earlier. I have looked further into this, but I still have a problem.

In the locales_target table, the French for ‘February’ is stored as ‘février’, but if I put the French  word for February (février) into the database in a node (marked as French), it is stored as ‘février’ not as ‘février’.

Can anyone shed any light on this?
