If you are interesting in sIFR, look at http://drupal.org/project/sifr

I'd only use it for limited text, say, node titles or something: not body text.

This is not because of drupal, it is because of the fonts installed in
that computer. Drupal merely serves the markup the way you write it.
Even a plain HTML page will show you the same result.

With regard to using cufon or sIFR, you should have redistribution
rights or license to put the font in a server before putting them in a
theme. Just FYI.
