D7 will be ready when the 412 critical issues that are now in your right column on <a href="http://drupal.org">drupal.org</a> are solved.<br><br>Some are guessing it will be out around march/april 2010, but depending how fast it goes solving the critical issues this estimate might change. If you look at Amazon for the estimated publishing date of most new Drupal 7 books they also seem to guess for april 2010 at the moment.<br>
<br>When upgrading from D5 to D7 you will have to upgrade first to D6 anyway.
