exactly, the im module indeed has hard time knowing
which users are online. and yes, so far I never succeeded in implimenting it. I
am using it on drupal 4.6 3 so that may be the issue. I do like the
interactivity it can provide if the module was more successful.

I did try it, but it had too many issues for me. It seemed to really have
a hard time knowing when users were online if I recall correctly. There were
more issues but I don't recall further specifics. I was trying to
use it on 4.6.3 so that may have been the entire problem.
I removed it. I'd like to hear how you fare with
it.
