If I recall correctly, the logs are the default; that's what pops
up. If you look in your navigation menu, you'll see the rest of
the menu options under 'administer', such as enable modules or blocks.

Thanks.. by logging in and directly typing example.com/?q=admin/settings
I've been able to reset the maintenance mode.
I must have done something silly in the install though, because I'm not
getting any login/logout on the page, and I when i go to "administer"
all I get is a log! I was expecting some sort of navigation.
Please forgive any stupidity, this is my first attempt at drupal.
