[drupal-support] story in the index page
Blankhello. I changed the node that is shown in the index page of my website to node/1 which is a custom php page that I'd like to use for my home page. that worked just fine, except for a very annoying fact, which is even if I promote some stories/pages to the main page they simply never show. the website in question is mystop.net thank you. You are wrong. In order for the promote to front page stuff to work, your front page must be /node.

You are wrong. In order for the promote to front page stuff to work, your front page must be /node.
Actually I am pretty sure I am not. I have checked the code and no matter what the front page setting is set to if you go to /node you will get all the items that have been flagged to be promoted to the front page. I haven't tested it but I have checked the code and there is no check for the front page setting in node_page_default(). If you really I will test it tonight. Gordon.

As I thought it does work. what I did was. Created a node and set the "default front page" to point to it. in my case node/1 I also set the "promote to front page" to false. I then created another node with "promote to front page" set to true. Now if I go to the front page I get the first node. eg. http://example.com/ and if I go to the node url eg. http://example.com/node I get the preview of the second node. It does work. Gordon.
Gordon, I read the code, tried it on HEAD and in 4.6 and you are not correct, AFAIK. Are you *sure* it is not a custom theme of yours, nor a patch or a tweak? I set node/3 as default front page. And I have a list of nodes promoted to frontpage. But on http://www.barlaeus.nl/brl2/ it only shows the node/3, not any other "promoted" nodes. The "Promote to Front Page" doesn't put it onto the front page if the front page is not /node. what you are talking about doing is really just the /node as the front page and the node with the "sticky at top of lists" flagged. Or the other option is to add the following to the front page of the theme. <?php echo node_page_default(); ?> Really the "Promote to Front Page" should really be renamed as it is not always promoting nodes to the front page. The question from Mohammed was not "stories don't show when I go to /node", it was "stories don't show when I go to the front page (which is not /node)". Ber, you interpreted this as I did (the former option). Gordon, you seemed to interpret it the other way (the latter). There are a few ways to get the nodes showing on the front page. You could change your theme, as Gordon suggested. Another option (easier, but perhaps not as good a solution) would be to set your front page back to the default '/node', and to make your 'front page story' promoted to the front page, as well as 'sticky'. This way, it will appear at the top, before any other nodes. Alternatively, you could put the text in the site's mission, and display that on the front page '/node' using the built-in theme settings.
