Hi all, I'm wondering if there's any sort of bulk export feature in D6 for the actual content of our sites, in the same way as there is for menus etc. This <http://drupal.org/node/382816> seems to imply that there isn't, but if anyone is able to point me in the right direction, that'd be great (apologies in advance if this is a heinously newbie question). If I just could remember what is the standard format for this kind of stuff search would be much easier. I'm not sure if this was a feature of some drupal module or of another unnamed CMS but there should be a module to export exactly what translation companies normally expect. googling a bit... http://groups.drupal.org/node/7372 Maybe there are other modules exporting in other format. Here you can find the list of standard format for translation... maybe further googling can take you somewhere. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Translation_memory#Export -- Ivan Sergio Borgonovo http://www.webthatworks.it
Hey John, Can you clarify if you are looking to export data or if you are trying to translate data as mentioned in the referenced link? Also, maybe a bit about your setup (modules, etc) and aims. Thanks, Tim On Fri, May 8, 2009 at 9:48 AM, <john_oshea@wordbank.com> wrote:

Hi Tim and Ivan, thanks for your responses, and please excuse the joint reply. The situation we're currently in is that we have a very basic site set up in English only, and are looking to export the content (maybe 50pp of text content), translate it in bulk, and then re-import it back in as French, German etc. The reason we're looking at bulk export/import is that's how we're used to working. We're a localization agency and have a set of filters for taking most export formats, extracting the localizable text into Word format, where our translators can use their translation memory tools and the like. This is our first Drupal setup and we're still exploring what's possible and what isn't, and what the "Drupal ways" of doing things are, so it's not actually critical that we get a solution to the export/import to be honest. I'm going to have a look at the XLIFF Tools module that Ivan's pointed me at, as I suspect that may well do exactly what we want. Thanks (both) for your speedy responses - they're much appreciated. Hey John, np, good luck :). btw, if xliff doesn't work for what you need, maybe try node export. <http://drupal.org/project/node_export> Cheers, Tim On Fri, May 8, 2009 at 12:33 PM, <john_oshea@wordbank.com> wrote:

If localisation is your core business I'd advice you to install and test i18n and some related modules. D6 has a very nice localisation/translation support but i18n may make your work-flow and relating content much more flexible and better. Drupal has one of, maybe the best localisation support you could find. -- Ivan Sergio Borgonovo http://www.webthatworks.it

Cool - thanks.

Yes, based on what I've read, Drupal's support for multiple languages (and multiple workflows) appears to be significantly better than a lot of other CMSs (including quite a few commercial ones).
