I agree. There's just so much that goes into tweaking and fixing things as
you're developing. Definitely a user, not as much a contributor (yet). I
do love using Drupal though. I've recommended for a wide range of community
building projects as well as personal and small business site.
I used to (and will soon resume) working for the AmeriCorps CTC VISTA
project. We help build communities using technology and Drupal just fits in
so nicely towards that end.
Our director is a big fan.
