Wamp works fine too. Just make sure your outgoing smtp server from your apache config to what your normal outgoing mail is, and it works fine.

I think a lots of people in this list using something like Linux or MacOS.
These OSes doesn't having any problems installing email server.
On windows you probably should use something like XAMPP
