I am familiar with with LDAP and Active Directory.

They use a web-based .NET application. ( Hosted by a .NET focused
hosting company. )

This could grow very quickly. I need something scalable.

This may change rapidly, the usage today may be different than in 8
months. I need something that is flexible.

Currently the planned LDAP clients will be Drupal, a Java ad-hoc
reporting tool and a web-based .NET application. There may be other
systems added down the road.
