[consulting] Referral Fees?

I would never accept or give a referral fee.

If I refer a shop/person, it is only because they are a fit for the
project.

Likewise, if someone refers us, it's for the same reason.

Referral fees feel more like Amway than web development. A referral should
be made in the interest of the client. Referral fees can create an
appearance of allowing a business interest to have an outsize interest in
the decision making process.

YMMV, but thats my .02
