your help is wanted. That is just the way Dries communicates with the 
developers. Patches take a lot of effort to get into core. If you're 
willing to work on it, discuss, debate, refine etc., you'll see your 
patches get accepted. If it sounds like too much work then you haven't 
lost anything as you can still use your patch for yourself. To me it 
sounds like both Dries and James are interested in working with you on 
this one. Don't give up so easily.
