Here is a patch that fixes the default content type setting issue.

Using an external blogging app, such as Ecto, and trying to post to the
front page of a site is not working. It posts to the user's blog,
however it does not post to the actual front page (if front page is set
to node). I have the defaults set correctly so that all blog posts
default to being promoted to the front page, yet it still doesn't work.
