exactly, I'm hopping into this conversation a bit late ... but yes  
there are several things I (we) can do with buddylist built on this  
framework - but describing / naming relationships (and optionally,  
they could be constrained by an admin - i.e. a site only defines  
"friend" and "family" relationships for buddies) ... having free  
relationship definitions would be excellent.
