Ernest has done a lot of experiments with his collaborative editor soc
project:

Can I ask you to have a go at testing it:

It is being actively developed at the moment so expect bugs, but your
opinion matters a lot.

At the moment the editor is at the stage of turning this into an api -
both javascript and serverside. The intent is in the long term to be
able to apply this for most drupal forms with little work.
