Not viable for everyone, though. It seems like it isn't very likely that 
"normal" users would have squid proxies set up. Yet writing static files 
to a /nodes folder seems really accessible to most cases.

I'd be very interested in static page caching. Whether we use a library 
or develop our own should only be a question of what is easiest to 
implement/maintain.
