[development] 4.7 hook_node preview

Is there some trick that I don't know about when using the hook_node function 
in 4.7?  I think I like the changes in HEAD that remove this hook in 
preference of true form API functions.

My problem is that I can't seem to see the changes to $node when preview is 
pressed.  Is there some way around this that I don't know about?  Or is there 
some way to access the form data so things don't get forgotten on a preview?
