CentOS has long had the CentOS Plus repository (see
http://www.jimohalloran.com/2005/08/30/php-5-for-centos-41/). PHP5 has
been available for quite some time.

One of the pushes of this process could be banding together and
promoting/recommending a certain minimum version. Getting the CentOS
Plus maintainers on board to support whatever version of PHP 5.2.x we
think is best would really help with adoption...
