Hmm, how about using db replication with the replicas being secondary
databases on the sub-sites?

I'd use feeds.
-Set up rss feeds for the views you want to push (or create this content
filter as a new view with an rss feed).
-On the child sites, use the feedapi module
(http://drupal.org/project/feedapi) to import the nodes on cron.
