Ah, yes, I should have mentioned that. hook_forms is your friend there
(but you will have to re-attach taxonomy in hook_form_alter and other
things might be a bit strange too). Another problem is that you will
need a lot of memory if you have either a lot of forms or quite
complicated ones.
